Tree Swallow

2010.7.1 Tree Swallow

Swallows are known for their distinctive split tail, creating a memorable silhouette. And yet I chose to draw one that in no way reveals this feature. He’s cute, though, isn’t he?

Yellow Billed Magpie

2010.6.30 Yellow Billed Magpie

This looks like an inquisitive fellow. Since “Magpie” is an affectionate name I now use for my daughter, I may keep and frame this one for her room, along with another one made later in the year.

Cuckoo

2010.6.29 Cuckoo

So much is made of the cuckoo’s habit of hiding eggs in other bird’s nests that I know very little about adult cuckoos. As it turns out, many species in the cuckoo family actually do raise their own young. So not all of them are “nest parasites.”
